Sorry it took so long to reply. BTW. Can we get an option to post code?
So here's a quick tutorial
1. Include the JQuery Script in your header at the top of the scripts section. (Make sure it's above Prototype and Scriptaculous if you are using them. The line which renames the $ Function is simply there to fix a bug with prototype (I believe) so you probably don't need that if you're not using Prototype.
/js/jquery.js\" type=\"text/javascript\">
JQ = $; //rename $ function
2. Include the Thickbox script file:
/js/thickbox.js\" type=\"text/javascript\">
3. Include the CSS File for Thickbox:
/thickbox.css\" />
Keep in mind, the above three pieces of code are using PHP functions used by Wordpress, so if you aren't using wordpress, then use the equivalent to reach your file. In order to use these exact lines please be sure you have the files in the right place.
4. This part simply adds the player, pulling the id number from a custom field. You must add the custom field to your blog post templates by going to Custom Fields > Add a new Custom Field > Type in "flash_key" into the box on the left. Add this below the line.
<a href=\"#TB_inline?height=400&width=500&inlineId=stuff\" title=\"<?php the_title(); ?>\" class=\"thickbox\">Play</a>
<div id=\"stuff\"><object width=\"437\" height=\"370\" id=\"viddler\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http://web0.viddler.com/player/\" /><param name=\"allowScriptAccess\" value=\"always\" /><param name=\"flashvars\" value=\"key=<?php echo get_post_meta($post->ID, \"flash_key\", $single = true); ?>\"/><param name=\"quality\" value=\"high\" /><embed src=\"http://web0.viddler.com/player/\" flashvars=\"key=<?php echo get_post_meta($post->ID, \"flash_key\", $single = true) ?>\" quality=\"high\" width=\"437\" height=\"370\" allowScriptAccess=\"always\" name=\"viddler\"/></object></div>
This method will probably be changed when the API comes out. Currently, you have to manually find an ID number from the embed code in the player (so it's almost just as simple to add the player to each post manually). The flash key you must use is found in the embed code of each video it is found at the following location: http://www.viddler.com/player/XXXXXXXX/
The number in x is what you will copy. There should be an easier way to call these videos up with the API in the future (I hope). And hopefully, someone (perhaps myself) could create a Wordpress plugin to add the videos from the template.
I hope the formatting is not too screwed up in this post, I'll post it on a site or blog soon to fix the formatting problems. I very probably missed something, so if you can't get this to work on your own site, just ask.
Hope you enjoy :)
-------- UPDATE -------
My code apparently got messed up, sorry about this. I'll have to post everything somewhere else and link it. Check back soon!
Now I know I'm not Engadget, but I thought I'd do my part in updating everybody about the Microsoft Keynote that I'm watching relatively live on their stream.
Some funny things I've noticed so far:
Vista
Great quote. The revision revert feature is "better than going back in time" a direct shot at Apple's TimeMachine feature.
I like how they seem to tie everything together. They're over hyping everything a bit though.
Using an XBOX Live controller to control things in Vista? Couldn't you already do this on pretty much any comp with just a few Drivers?
The sport thing is pretty cool as long as you don't have to be connected to cable. Basically, it's a feature for Media Center that will track pretty much everything about sports. Also, if you have to pay :(
Group Shot - A photoshop rip off for "easily selecting" parts of pictures and merges them.
Motion Desktop - Set Video as your background.... Wait a minute, couldn't you already do this? And DOESN'T IT EAT UP CPU LIKE NOTHING ELSE!?!?! WTF are they thinking?
So apparently they cut off the stream right before talking about the "Windows Home Server" deal saying "In respect to the intellectual property being demonstrated on-stage, we are temporarily suspending the audio and video portion of this broadcast. Normal programming will begin shortly. Thank you for your patience."
Entertainment
Now we see an image, looks a lot like a Shuttle pc or Mac Mini like comp. with hard drives layered on top.
Going to become the leader in the Portable Audio Arena? Hmmm....
Why are they so obsessed with gaming on Windows? If I want to game, in the future I'll get a gaming console. I don't believe the computer will be a player in the gaming market for much longer. There's simply no need. Once the control systems are mastered for the console controllers, or keyboards and mice become more available for consoles, you'll simply have your computer and gaming console.
They are doing something interesting things with Vista and XBOX Live, however. It would be killer if they could allow you to buy one game that would run on your PC AND Xbox.
OOOH. High Def! 4 Ways to Get Them in the Microsoft Network:
1. HD DVD (of course, the format wars)
2. Media Center
3. Xbox Live Video (Some new content added)
Wait... I thought he said 4? Maybe more are coming... Stay tuned!
- Here it comes 4. IPTV on Xbox 360 - could be interesting.... available Holiday 2007 !!?!? Why such a long time? Screw that, by that time The Venice Project'll be out
WOAH!!! Superman Returns in High Def is 7 GIGS! Need a big HD for that
Car
Simple and safe commands to access media, etc.
Probably something about Ford's new sync feature. - INDEED IT IS! Hmmm. Microsoft Auto syncing with iPod? Zune and iPod in the same sentence at a Microsoft keynote! Brave Bill, brave.
Some stuff. Text messages read to you, and transfer calls as you're getting into your car. WHO THE HELL is so busy to need this shit?! Just call them back, if you're this ridiculous, you need to relax.
The Future according to Microsoft
Cell Phone allowing you to accept packages remotely.
Kitchen helper projection. Scans RFID to determine item. What if it's hard to find the RFID?
Wall display for bedroom. This would be cool. But how much freaking power would this stuff use up?
Apparently they think video cameras will be ALL over the place allowing you to have live views around your house; cool but a little creepy.
I was invited to Viddler late last week and immediately fell in love with the site. It is so impressive to me because it is the only service allowing CHAPTER MARKERS within your online streaming videos. This is EXACTLY what we need for our MBA video site so that people can actually watch the assemblys without getting bored.
Thanks so much viddler!
We hope to release this site after the Christmas break. And I hope to have it fully functioning before Christmas so check back here later for more info!

As I awoke this evening with the smell of wood smoke clinging
Like a gentle cobweb hanging upon a painted tepeeOh I went to see my chieftain with my warlance and my woman
For he told us that the yellow moon would very soon be leaving
This I can't believe I said, I can't believe our warlord's dead
Oh he would not leave the chosen ones to the buzzards and the soldiers guns
Oh great father of the Iroquois ever since I was young
I've read the writing of the smoke and breast fed on the sound of drums
I've learned to hurl the tomahawk and ride a painted pony wild
To run the gantlet of the Sioux, to make a chieftain's daughter mine
And now you ask that I should watch
The red man's race be slowly crushed
What kind of words are these to hear
From Yellow Dog whom white man fears
I take only what is mine Lord, my pony, my squaw, and my child
I can't stay to see you die along with my tribe's pride
I go to search for the yellow moon and the fathers of our sons
Where the red sun sinks in the hills of gold and the healing waters run
Trampling down the prairie rose leaving hoof tracks in the sand
Those who wish to follow me I welcome with my hands
I heard from passing renegades Geronimo was dead
He'd been laying down his weapons when they filled him full of lead
Now there seems no reason why I should carry on
In this land that once was my land I can't find a home
It's lonely and it's quiet and the horse soldiers are coming
And I think it's time I strung my bow and ceased my senseless running
For soon I'll find the yellow moon along with my loved ones
Where the buffalos graze in clover fields without the sound of guns
And the red sun sinks at last into the hills of gold
And peace to this young warrior comes with a bullet hole
Just wanted to quickly mention how amazing this game has been for the Titans. Makes me think that they will be the team to beat next year. They seem to be playing just as well as the colts every since the 2nd Quarter. So far it's 17-14 with the HUGE 95 yard drive, I'll have the update later.
In the mean time check it out the BoxScore from ESPN.com
EDIT:
Well, looks like Bironas did it again with a 61 yard field goal!
Titans beat the (now) 10-2 Colts.
We decided to use Brightcove's amazing publishing system on our archives site so that we have as much possible control over our player as possible.
The main factor in choosing brightcove was their new Chapter markers feature which allows users to place chapter markers within uploaded videos for added navigation. Unfortunately, this feature is only available by using their API and doesn't work out of the box with any of their players.
Because we can't create out own player quite yet, we are probably going to be breaking our videos up into pieces, much like you see on InvasionCinema.com.
If anyone out there could give us some tips on doing this, it'd be greatly appreciated. You can check out a sample of what we're doing here.
So I've been looking for a way to get pop up / lightbox like video to work for the MBA Video Site. I have thrown together an extremely manual and crude way to do this for the time being. But in the future, I'd like to use some javascript to automate the process, streamlining the code to a simple link.
Basically, I am currently using the following:
Thickbox with JQuery
It works perfectly....
Until you throw in the Prototype/Scriptaculous combo I had been using in the Balance theme. In order to fix this issue. I searched and searched, and came upon the most simple of places, JQuery's own documentation! Check out the first and last points in the PrototypeandJQuery section and you will come upon the answer for this age old question.
Now it is working perfectly, just check it out on this page:
http://www.bjtitus.net/MBA/2006/08/03/baucis-and-philemon-movie-2/
Basically, I'm using the AJAX ability of Thickbox to pull a page on which I've embedded the Google Video I want to display. Since all the videos are uniform in size, I should be able to come up with some very simple code (javascript or, more likely, PHP) to automate this process (pull the url from the link and stick it in the page or something). This would drastically limit file clutter and size (since you would only need one display page which would fit ALL of the videos.
I love the idea of using a page because I could possibly add other UI features later. Such as tabs to navigate, or possibly other formats that I would not want to include on the original post page. Best of all, this solution can easily be ported over to the future MBA video site which I hope to be an all thumbnails navigation.
So currently, I can't decide whether I should have the user click on a thumbnail/picture (that would probably have a transparent overlay saying PLAY on it) OR whether to have a simple link/button to play the file below the text/image.
So I decided (sometime around 11:30) that I would begin making my homepage over again, and now, 3 hours late, I'm done! Basically, my goal was to create a simple, easy to use page where people could easily get to my most commonly used sites around the net.
I decided on 3 of my most important apps for the main buttons. Vox (the blog), Flickr, and Digg. These are probably my most used, and most interesting online identities. I will likely add smaller links, or a drop down list of other sites so that I can have more links to my content. The site is extremely simple with very few images to keep load time low and no server side scripting.
Some of the most interesting features include the CSS3 opacity method, which made it EXTREMELY easy for me to make the mouse over divs. (Otherwise I would have had to make seperate images for each event, which I began to do , taking up most of my first hour). Basically, the site is just a splash page, but I am very pleased with the results.
